BSR 2020 Call for EoIs for Programme Development
Northern Bridge Consortium has run two residential programmes for our doctoral cohort in partnership with the British School at Rome, and is issuing this call for expressions of interest from academic colleagues to participate in developing and delivering the programme for January 2020:
BSR 2020 Call for EoIs for Programme Development
While full use is made of the opportunity a base in Rome affords, across any AHRC discipline, the programme is not primarily to deepen research in the city or region, but rather to expose participants to a range of skills and approaches that they might not usually expect to encounter in their field. The aim is thus to achieve a broader awareness of the breadth of arts and humanities research, and to open participants to new possibilities in interdisciplinary research.
The sessions are each designed to engage participants with radically different approaches and materials from antiquity to the twenty-first century, exploring advanced research methods. For example, previous sessions have included the bioarchaeology of manuscripts, the impact of Ancient Rome on British imperialism, the Grand Tour, object learning, archaeology and working in international collaborations.
Each session is scheduled for a half-day (or approximately 2.5-3 hours) and can be hosted in the BSR or across the city of Rome. Roughly one-third of the sessions are delivered by colleagues and fellows of the BSR and the rest from Northern Bridge Consortium colleagues.
The Northern Bridge Consortium directors would be delighted to hear from any colleague or group of colleagues who has an idea for a session on the programme. To submit an Expression of Interest, please email Dr Annie Tindley on NorthernBridgeDirector@ncl.ac.uk with a brief description of the proposed session (250-300 words max please), indicating why it would be suitable for inclusion, and relevant to both the BSR and Northern Bridge students and a link to your staff page by Friday 30th August 2019. We expect to be able to include a maximum of one member of academic staff/team from each Northern Bridge institution.
