Equality, Diversity, Inclusion
The consortium was awarded AHRC funding to undertake a number of activities to help enable it to deliver on the broad aims of its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan. Six EDI Action Award Research Fellows were recruited to work on projects generated by “EDI Together” - a co-created working group of consortium volunteers, including current awardees from across the member institutions and two Academic Directors. The reports below were produced by the fellows:
Accessibility - Review and Repair
A project to describe and repair the (in)accessibility of the consortium’s public- and awardee-facing documentation. Fellows were asked to collect awardees’ views on the accessibility of consortium’s public- and awardee-facing documentation through a programme of activities including a launch event, online questionnaire and focus groups / interviews.
A project to understand what PhD-related terms (e.g., viva, call for papers) made current awardees hesitate about applying for a studentship, i.e., made them feel they did not—and could not—fit; and build a PhD jargon buster. Fellows were asked to collect awardees’ views on the use of specialist PhD-related terminology and its implications for accessibility / inclusion through a programme of activities including a launch event, online questionnaire and focus groups / interviews.
A project to understand barriers faced by awardees who are part-time and/or have caring responsibilities; and to respond to the data in ways that tackle the barriers. Fellows were asked to collect views of awardees who are part-time and / or have caring responsibilities through a programme of activities including a launch event, online questionnaire and focus groups / interviews.
