Northern Bridge Consortium

Welcome to the Northern Bridge Consortium.

Northern Bridge Consortium is a Doctoral Training Partnership funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

It brings together the cutting-edge expertise and exceptional resources of Durham University, Newcastle University, Northumbria University, Queen’s University Belfast, Sunderland University, Teesside University and Ulster University and their non-HE partner organisations.

Our final studentship competition, for entry in October 2025, is now open. We offer studentships to outstanding postgraduate researchers across the full range of Arts and Humanities subjects, including Creative Practice disciplines.

Potential students interested in considering an already developed PhD project with one of of partner universities and a non-HE partner organisation should visit our Collaborative Doctoral Awards page. We are currently recruiting candidates to a range of projects in various subject areas, with 20 PhD studentship opportunities available for entry in October 2025.

Northern Bridge students benefit from supervision, training and development of the highest quality, tailored to the needs of 21st-century researchers.
